I have Windows 10 64 bit with the latest updates on a pretty old HP laptop, and have "HP 3D DriveGuard 4.2.9.1" (sp59213.exe) installed with no issues. This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. It is for W8.1 but works fine on W10 as well. One of my Dells came with a similar utility when I replaced the HDD with an SSD, I uninstalled it without any problems. Here is the link to the last version of the 3D driveguard software for the 3D driveguard hardware version your notebook has. I sure wouldn't pay HP $100 to attempt to solve this 'problem'. If your users can avoid dropping their laptops, I don't think Driveguard is needed. They said they'd be happy to help solve the problem but since the laptops are over year old it would cost at least $100 for phone help.
